    • Mark himself points out some of it controversial and some of the work will be experimentation
    • notifications will have NO actions, so no buttons, no sliders, no x to press to get rid of them
    • basically notifications are things you can ignore and continue your workflow if you want
    • there is no log of notifications you may have missed, once its gone, its gone
    • for things that need your attention, panels and windows are the way to go
    • see Mark's blog for a flash animation of it
    • if you have used OS X, seems a bit like Growl which is used for notifications
    • also like the mumbles project which is built for GNOME: http://www.mumbles-project.org/
    • from around the comments left on his blog and generally the blogosphere, people like the idea, but not that you can't do actions

  • Tombuntu article on installing Virtualbox 2.1 on Ubuntu 8.10
    • Support for 64-bit guests on 32-bit host operating systems.
    • Experimental 3D acceleration via OpenGL.
    • Don’t get too excited about 3D acceleration yet. For now only OpenGL on a 32-bit Windows guest is supported. DirectX support is planned, which means that 3D gaming in a VM could become possible.
    • New Host Interface Networking implementations for Windows and Linux hosts with easier setup
  • Ubuntu Privacy Remix (UPR)
    • Live-CD based on Ubuntu Linux.
    • Not meant to be installed on hard disk
    • Goal is provide an isolated, working environment where private data can be dealt with safely.

@csills,

If you have a wordpress.com account or Gravatar account, use the same email address when posting comments, and your profile picture should show up.

Csills on January 10, 2009 at 20:21

Sorry about the video glitches for this past episode everyone. My mobo went out on me and I just replaced it today, so should be back on track with the next show with all the files. Also, we are working on the direct downloads as well, as that his been requested a few times.

Hi! I’ve just watched 2 of your last episodes. What I can say? It is a kickass podcast :) Simple solution, two guys sitting in front of a camera and talking about the Best OS and Greatest Community out there. Don’t change anything, keep it as simple as it is now. The most important thing is content. Thanks and all the Best!

I’m kinda shocked that someone in the Ubuntu community had no idea that theres tabbed file management now. This was the most talked about feature in the newest version of Gnome, hell it was arguably the only meaningful addition to the newest Gnome. How did this one slip past you?

Finally fixed the m4v feed for those who were wanting it! Sorry about the delay, had to replace my motherboard. That was fun. :)

I am unable to download your podcast with Rhythmbox with MP3 or OGG feeds. Other podcasts are okay, and I have downloaded your previous podcasts okay as well. I don’t know if this is a problem with Rhythmbox or the feed URL.

nick on January 13, 2009 at 13:38

@Zac,

It should now be fixed, our apologies.
