Thank you so much for plugging linux video editing with Leslie and Google Summer of Code. Like you say, video editing in linux can be done, but ... whether you'll want to keep doing it long-term is another matter. My current experiences of setting up video editing in Intrepid are here (http://p-s.co.nz/wordpress/?p=237). It was OK but it would be nice if there were some better options coming down the pipeline. All the best from New Zealand.

Leslie Hawthorn:
"Ubuntu had applied and was accepted, but they have subsequently chosen not to participate in GSoC 2009. You can ask for details in #ubuntu on Freenode. "

As Ubuntu supporters, are you disappointed by this? Do you know why Ubuntu walked away from this summer's program?
Lack of ideas? Lack of mentors? Something else? Maybe you should consider doing a followup podcast and talk about Ubuntu's role as a GSoC mentor. Do you think Ubuntu should be a mentor? Do you think Ubuntu is working on things with high impact? Is Ubuntu's withdraw a net loss for open source? for students?
