Thank you first of for your work, I enjoyed Mark’s latest podcast a lot, and congrats for your site’s look and feel.
I wonder if you guys have insights concerning Google Android probably landing soon on top-selling netbooks and how this will impact Ubuntu Remix efforts as well as Ubuntu desktop penetration on the longer term. As Mark mentioned in the podcast concerning kernel contributions, Ubuntu is no Google, and the major n@tebook makers seem to be very actively working on Android for the next million-waves of top-selling super-cheap (ARM-based) netbooks. Is there something Ubuntu can do not to get it’s Ubuntu Remix simply discarded by the big players when compared to Android as a netbook OS some months from now? Are Ubuntu’s experience, community and philosophy strong enough factors to convince OEM’s, or does Mark have other aces to resist Android’s appeal for netbook makers? As I see it, I’d try quite hard to stay with Ubuntu mainly for ethical/philosophical reasons, although a Google linetbook sounds awfully sexy not only for the masses…

Great podcast. It’s good to see Mark still has the enthusiasm despite the flac he gets. He realizes it though and has got it all in perspective. You just can’t let constant criticism get you down, otherwise nothing gets accomplished. He is doing a better job than his critics would ever do in their dreams.

Of course, there are many more questions I would like asked, and more in depth answers, but there isn’t never enough time.

Lately, some great interviews. In a previous podcast the lady from Google spoke very good as well. Keep it up.

Great interview – its always great to hear Mark speak.

Please update your video player so that I can seek forward beyond what has already downloaded. It is quite annoying if you don’t watch the whole video in one sitting that when you come back you have to wait for the part that you have already watched to download again.

Shuttleworth is really great as always, but interviewers are just plain horrible. Here is why:
1) The interviewer to the left seems to be chuckling all the time for no appearant reason (how about just tuning off your mic?) and keeps repeating “sure”, which actually sounds as if he was saying “oh, really? I can’t believe it.”;
2) Same interviewer might just forgotten about the interview and before every question keeps mumbling “ammm”, “ummm”, “hmmm” (how about writing down the questions before the interview?);
3) How about using a decent camera instead of that 10$ webcam you are curently using (or just making audio only interview if you can’t afford one), because video is horrible and audio is just plain awful;

So Mr. Shuttleworth thinks it’s a symbiotic relationship they have with Debian (and possibly the rest of the Free Software world). Yet he seems to think that symbiosis always implies codependence.

Symbiosis commonly covers the following three scenerios:

Mutualism, where both species benefit from their joined interaction.
Commensalism, where one species gains a benefit from the interaction and the other is not significantly harmed
Parasitism, where one species is full dependent on the other, which is also significantly harmed by this interaction.

It always bothered me when people misuse or misunderstand symbiosis like this.

30% of the kernel..is drivers. Do hardware drivers matter to Mark’s mom?

What about the GNOME desktop? Is Canonical leading there? Is Canonical investing there? What upstream gnome modules do Canonical employees maintain?

Is Canonical’s ideas about the UI on the GNOME 3.0 roadmap?
Is the notification work on GNOME’s roadmap? The shell and the journal concepts being talked about in the 3.0 roadmapping grew out of the OLPC development experience. Where is Canonical vision for the desktop in that discussion?

Isn’t the whole point of Ubuntu Brainstorm to filter good ideas?
With the literally millions of votes in Brainstorm, why is it difficult to find good project ideas? And why is SoC mentorship responsibilities opened up to a non-Canonical leadership? Where is the open transparent community focused governance model for Ubuntu’s SoC involvement? If Canonical doesn’t have time…why isn’t the larger Ubuntu community empowered to lead this? Are you saying that the Ubuntu community is not large enough or experienced enough to mentor students?

I only have one request: Is it possible to add subtitles to this kind of podcast ? For non anglophone-people, I think it’s more easy to understand when you can read what you are listening than trying to understand by only listening.
